David Samuel Adkins, age 67, of Hillsboro, passed away November 21, 2012 at Highland District Hospital surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and other family. He was born in Fairborn, OH on May 16, 1945 to Lenvil & Opal Adkins. David married his wife of 44 years, Nancy (Prater) on October 8, 1968. During their time together they produced four children, Connie, Shawn, Tanya, and Melody. David began his career at Grinnell Sprinkler Company as a pipe fitter. He worked at Grinnell for several years. From there, David ventured to Clinton Construction, where he worked as a Quality Control Supervisor. He was also the Union Steward while he worked for Clinton Construction. He retired from Clinton Construction in 1983. David was an avid lover of Sports and was the Hillsboro High School Indians # 1 Fan. He never missed a game; be it home or away until his health prevented him from being able to attend in the last year. He particularly loved seeing his grandsons playing ball and his granddaughters cheerleading. David belonged to the United Methodist Church in Sinking Springs and the Hillsboro Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1161. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy (Prater) Adkins; daughters Connie (Carl Jr) Storms, Tanya (Joe) Jenkins, Melody Adkins and one son Shawn (Cassie) Adkins; grandchildren, Caitlin Adkins, Destiny Bender, Ethan Adkins, Gabriel Adkins, Samuel Adkins, Kevin Jenkins, and Brian Jenkins; two step-granddaughters; Zandra Storms and Tonya Storms and two step great grandchildren, Faith Ann and Kenneth Moore; sisters; Donna (Tom) Smith, Loretta "Sis" (Gene) Brown, and Connie Adkins; brothers; Gary (Connie) Adkins and Larry (Francis) Adkins; sister-in-laws; Bonnie Shaffer, Sandra Prater, Barb Prater, Betty Prater, and Peg Prater; brother-in-law David (Debbie) Prater. He also had a lot of loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a wide variety of close friends who will miss him. He is preceded in death by his parents; father, Lenvil D. Adkins and mother, Opal (King) Adkins; his in-laws, William and Janice Prater; and one brother, Michael Adkins. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
